Out of My Comfort Zone and Into Growth: Lessons from a Trip to Colorado

This week, I’m stepping out of my comfort zone—and not just a little. I’m heading to Colorado for a two-day marketing conference, and it’s pushing me in ways I didn’t expect. New learnings, new people, new routines, new food… it’s exciting and nerve-wracking.

If you’ve ever made changes to your lifestyle—whether it’s with food, fitness, mindset, or all three—you probably know that stepping outside your normal rhythm can feel a little unsettling. I’m right there with you this week.

Getting out of your comfort zone, even in small ways, is where growth takes place.
Getting out of your comfort zone, even in small ways, is where growth takes place.

What is a Comfort Zone, Anyway?

Our comfort zone is the space where we feel safe, in control, and confident. It’s our daily routine, our go-to meals, our familiar habits. And while those things can be supportive, they can also keep us from growing, evolving, and discovering what else we’re capable of.

Growth lives just outside that cozy bubble.

Here’s How I’m Navigating This Trip:

🍽 Food: I won’t have my kitchen, my go-to snacks, or the ability to control every ingredient. So I’ve planned ahead—I’m bringing a few staples, researching food options near the hotel, and reminding myself that I don’t have to be perfect. Just intentional.

🏋️‍♀️ Fitness: My usual workouts won’t fit this week, but the hotel has a gym and a pool—plenty of opportunity to move my body and stay connected to my wellness routine. It’s not about sticking to a script; it’s about honoring my body, even in a new space.

🧠 Mindset: This might be the biggest stretch. I’m going to a conference where I’m not the expert in the room. That’s humbling—but it’s also a gift. I’m reminding myself I don’t have to know it all. I’m there to learn, grow, and connect. And that’s enough.

Why This Matters for All of Us

You don’t have to travel across the country to leave your comfort zone. Maybe for you, it’s trying a new food, asking for help, or walking into a fitness class solo.

Every time you do something unfamiliar, you’re building a deeper kind of confidence—the kind that says, “I can do hard things. I can trust myself.”

And the more you stretch, the more you grow.

Your Turn: One Small Step Outside the Familiar

So here’s my invitation to you:

What’s one area where you can step out of your comfort zone this week?

Maybe it’s something simple—like eating a new veggie, going for a walk in a new place, or initiating a tough-but-needed conversation. It doesn’t have to be big. It just has to be yours.

Growth happens one small stretch at a time.

Let’s Encourage Each Other

When I get back, I’ll share what I learned—what worked, what didn’t, and how it felt to stretch into something new. In the meantime, I’d love to hear from you:
